One of the most common questions people ask when they are in front of the camera is “What should I do with my hands?” In today’s video I am going to give you 7 Tips for Posing Hands the most flattering way for the portrait shots.
- Don’t show the back of the hands
- Equally bend all fingers
- Slightly bend the wrist
- Don’t push hands against the face
- Play with the hair
- Use accessories
- Hold the collar of the jacket

Excellent tips explained in a very practical way. Well done!
Thank you Gary 😉
Great video Yana, looks so easy to do, but is actually hard to master or as a photographer to explain in a shoot if the model hasn’t practiced it in front of a mirror. I do go perhaps a step further and try to avoid fingers curving back to much, ie I like the hand and fingers only to resemble a smooth curve, not starting going towards a circle or actually closing up. Part of this smooth curve is that joints along the way have also an even bend and none look stiff or broken. Think ballerina and dance … and the lines should flow. If the model can do this, the final tune we photographers can help the model with is to do micro adjust this into leading lines in the overall composition. Great Yana, love your style, patience to get things right and talent.
Thank you Ralf! You are right, it’s hard to get it from the first time, especially if the person haven’t been in front of the camera much. Practice… Practice… Practice…
